Your journey begins in Nairobi with a warm welcome and a restful evening before setting off for the world renowned Maasai Mara National Reserve. Driving through the scenic Great Rift Valley, you’ll arrive at the Mara in time to explore its open savannahs teeming with wildlife. The next four days are dedicated to game drives that reveal the diversity and abundance of life across this vast ecosystem, from powerful predators to grazing herds and colorful birdlife. During the migration season, millions of wildebeest and zebras traverse the plains and cross the treacherous Mara River, pursued by lions, cheetahs, and crocodiles in one of nature’s most dramatic spectacles. Even outside migration season, the Mara remains alive with extraordinary wildlife and cultural encounters with the Maasai people. After days filled with adventure and stunning vistas, you’ll return to Nairobi with memories of a truly remarkable safari through Kenya’s most famous wilderness.

Day 2: – Drive to Maasai Mara National Reserve
On the first day of your migration safari, you will be picked up from your Nairobi hotel in the morning and drive along the floor of the Rift Valley to Maasai Mara with a scenic stopover at Great Rift Valley viewpoint, arrive at the lodge in time for lunch. Have lunch and check into the lodge.
Enjoy an afternoon game drive in the reserve to familiarize yourself with the reserve. The Masai Mara offers breathtaking views reminiscent of the film Out of Africa, which was filmed there. The reserve is densely populated with wildlife, including the Big Five and various plains game species.
Later return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3, 4, 5 and 6: Full day in Maasai Mara National Reserve
Given that Maasai Mara is densely populated with wildlife, you will extensively explore the reserve to experience all the possible game that it has to offer.
The Mara offers wildlife in such variety and abundance that it will be easy to spot them. You will be on the lookout for Africa’s Big Five – lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino. The birdlife is also abundant.
Maasai Mara is famous for the great wildebeest migration, where millions of wildebeest and zebras from the Serengeti (Tanzania) migrate to Mara in search of water and pasture. Following on their heels are the predators of the savanna- lion, cheetah, wild dog, jackal, hyena and vultures making for incredible sightings. This being a wildebeest migration safari, you will have firsthand experience on the magical migration.
The migrating herd covers a distance of over 2,000 miles and reaches the Mara-Serengeti border by the end of June. The climax of the Masai Mara Serengeti migration is the Mara River crossing which occurs between July and August; making this the best time for a Kenya Migration Safari.
However, the one thing that is certain, the great wildebeest migration is a long and arduous journey. Even without the attention of predators, about 2,000 of the migrating animals die from exhaustion, starvation, or disease.
Every day, fresh carcasses are left behind, crocodiles feast to the maximum, and predators launch lethal attacks. A must witness phenomena for Kenya Safari lovers.
Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight after the days’ activities.
Day 7: Drive back to Nairobi
This will be the last day of your Maasai Mara migration Safarifter a relaxed breakfast, you will start your drive back to Nairobi for your flight home.
End of safari.
