Following widespread rains across the Serengeti, stretching all the way down to Naabi Hill, the migration has begun to shift direction. A large herd of wildebeest has been recorded crossing the Mara River at Point No. 2, heading south. These movements mark a clear response to the recent rainfall, as the animals instinctively follow the scent of fresh grass and the promise of better grazing grounds.

For several weeks, herds have been scattered across the Lamai Wedge and Northern Serengeti, with many crossing back and forth as they gauge the changing conditions. Now, with the southern plains showing signs of renewal, the momentum is turning. The crossings at No. 2 suggest that the great southward movement is beginning to build, signaling the transition phase of the migration.

Over the coming days, more herds are expected to follow the same route, gradually pushing toward Central Serengeti and eventually fanning out across the Southern Plains near Ndutu and Naabi Hill, where the cycle of life will continue with the calving season ahead.
