Namunyak Wildlife Conservancy

All About Namunyak Wildlife Conservancy

Namunyak Wildlife Conservancy is a breathtaking conservation area nestled in northern Kenya, within the wild landscapes of Samburu County. Spanning over 850,000 acres of pristine wilderness, Namunyak is part of the larger Northern Rangelands Trust and is famously home to the Samburu people. The conservancy was established with the vision of integrating community development with wildlife conservation, making it a unique safari destination rooted in culture and sustainability.

This conservancy is particularly renowned for its successful elephant conservation efforts, especially at the Reteti Elephant Sanctuary, the first community owned elephant orphanage in Africa. Apart from elephants, Namunyak boasts a variety of wildlife including reticulated giraffes, Grevy’s zebras, leopards, lions, and rare bird species. While wildebeest are not a prominent species here like in the Mara-Serengeti ecosystem, Namunyak offers a raw, untouched safari experience rich in culture, wildlife, and scenic beauty.
