Mawe Tented Camp

Mawe Tented Camp

Mawe Tented Camp is a tranquil, semi-permanent safari camp nestled in the central eastern region of Serengeti National Park, along the scenic Ngarenanyuki River. Designed to offer a harmonious blend of comfort and authenticity, the camp is ideal for travelers seeking a deeper, more immersive experience in Tanzania’s vast wilderness. Surrounded by endless plains and the rhythmic sounds of wildlife, guests are treated to a true bush experience without compromising on style.

The camp comprises twelve luxury tents that are thoughtfully spaced for privacy and serenity. Each unit is tastefully designed with natural tones and traditional African décor, creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Private verandas offer panoramic views of the savannah, making them the perfect spot to enjoy sunrises or stargaze under Serengeti’s expansive night sky. The eco-conscious infrastructure, including solar power, ensures a low impact footprint while maintaining modern comforts.

Evenings at Mawe Tented Camp come alive with fireside gatherings, storytelling, and the occasional roar of a distant lion. The camp’s team delivers warm, personalized service, crafting unforgettable days filled with thrilling game drives, delicious meals, and quiet moments in nature. Whether you’re following the Great Migration or simply soaking in the wild, Mawe Tented Camp offers a serene and intimate base for exploration.

Best Time to Visit

Mawe Tented Camp is open year round and offers exceptional wildlife viewing throughout the seasons. For those keen on witnessing the Great Migration, the best months to visit are April to May and November, when the migratory herds pass through the central eastern Serengeti. The dry season from June to October is ideal for spotting predators and a wide range of animals as they congregate around water sources. The green season (December to March) also offers stunning landscapes, calving season for wildebeests, and fewer tourists.

How to Get There

By Air

The most convenient way to reach the camp is by flying into Seronera Airstrip, which is approximately 14 miles from the camp. Multiple daily flights operate from Arusha, Kilimanjaro, and other major Tanzanian hubs. Once you land, a short game drive transfer takes you straight into the heart of the Serengeti and to the camp.

By Road

For adventurous travelers, Mawe Tented Camp is accessible by 4×4 vehicle from Arusha or nearby parks such as Ngorongoro. The overland journey offers breathtaking views of the countryside and opportunities to spot wildlife along the way. It’s a long drive about 7 to 8 hours, so it’s best done with a professional safari guide and vehicle.
