Angama Mara

On the edge of the world, overlooking the Mara

Angama Mara is one of Kenya’s most breathtaking lodges, set high on the Oloololo Escarpment with sweeping, endless views of the Masai Mara below. Its name, “Angama,” means “suspended in mid air” in Swahili, and that’s exactly how it feels, perched between sky and savannah. The lodge is famous for its glass fronted tented suites that open onto wide wooden decks, giving you a front row seat to the drama of the Mara.

Every detail here blends modern style with timeless safari romance. There’s an infinity pool, a fitness room, a photographic studio, and even private picnic spots at the very site where Out of Africa was filmed. Wildlife is never far away, with lions, elephants, and wildebeest roaming the plains below. Angama is as much about connection as it is about comfort, connection with the land, the Maasai culture, and with the raw beauty of Africa itself.

Best Time to Visit Angama Mara

The Masai Mara is excellent year round, but the July to October period is extra special as it coincides with the Great Migration. For fewer crowds and lush green landscapes, the November to February window is ideal, offering spectacular resident wildlife sightings and clear skies.

How to Get to Angama Mara

Guests can fly from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to the Mara’s Serena or Kichwa Tembo airstrips, followed by a 45 minute drive to camp. Private charter flights can also land at Angama’s own private airfield. By road, it’s a scenic but long 5 to 6 hour drive from Nairobi, best for travelers who want to enjoy the journey through Kenya’s Rift Valley and rural landscapes.
