On 6th February 2026, a rare pale wildebeest calf was spotted on the Western Plains of Ndutu in the Southern Serengeti. The calf stood out from the herd because of its light color.

The unusual coloring may be caused by albinism or leucism. Albinism means the animal has little or no melanin, which gives color to the skin, hair, and eyes. Leucism is a partial loss of color, where the animal appears lighter than normal but may still have normal eye color.

Cases like this are rare in wild wildebeest and are not commonly seen during the Great Migration. The sighting happened as calving season continues in Ndutu.
