Lamai Serengeti Camp is an exclusive, luxury safari retreat located atop the Kogakuria Kopje in the northern Serengeti. Its prime location offers spectacular panoramic views over the Serengeti plains and is strategically situated near the Mara River, an area that becomes particularly famous during the annual Great Wildebeest Migration. The camp’s elevated position provides unparalleled views of the surrounding wilderness, which includes vast grasslands and the nearby river, where dramatic wildebeest river crossings occur between July and October. It’s an ideal place for guests seeking an authentic, yet comfortable, immersion into the heart of African wildlife.
The camp offers a total of 12 spacious tents with distinct decor that captures the beauty and essence of traditional safari life, enhanced with modern luxury. Each tent is designed to be open fronted, featuring a private veranda, allowing guests to enjoy unobstructed views of the Serengeti. Inside, the tents are furnished with locally crafted furniture, ensuring an elegant yet authentic atmosphere. The interiors are spacious and well appointed, providing a peaceful retreat with comfortable beds, a writing desk, and an en-suite bathroom with both indoor and outdoor showers. The camp is also highly sustainable, blending seamlessly into the environment while providing luxurious amenities.
Best Time to Visit
The dry season from June to October is considered the best time to visit Lamai Serengeti Camp, especially for those eager to witness the Great Migration. During this period, the vegetation thins out, and wildlife gathers around the remaining water sources, making it ideal for game viewing. The abundance of wildlife, combined with the easier visibility due to sparser vegetation, provides optimal safari experiences.
July to October is particularly special for witnessing the Mara River crossings, where herds of wildebeest and zebras attempt to cross the river while being pursued by predators, creating one of nature’s most spectacular scenes. Additionally, the weather is generally dry, with clear skies, ensuring excellent visibility during game drives. For those seeking a quieter experience, December to March is also an excellent time to visit as it marks the calving season, when thousands of wildebeest give birth to their young. The campsites are less crowded, providing a more tranquil safari experience.
