Rekero Camp

Rekero Camp is nestled on the northern banks of the Talek River, within the Maasai Mara National Reserve. This location offers an immersive experience of the Mara’s wildlife and picturesque landscapes. The camp provides an intimate and authentic safari experience, with its strategically placed tents offering spectacular views of the surrounding plains. It is known for its proximity to the Mara River, which is central to the Great Migration spectacle. Rekero Camp ensures that guests enjoy the best wildlife viewing opportunities, especially during the migration season.

The camp has nine spacious tents, which include two family units, each designed to offer comfort and convenience without compromising the essence of a traditional safari. Each tent comes with en-suite bathrooms, featuring bucket showers, flush toilets, and a private veranda that overlooks the pristine wilderness. The camp’s design merges seamlessly with its surroundings, providing a perfect blend of luxury and nature.

Rekero Camp prides itself on offering exceptional service in a relaxed and tranquil atmosphere, where guests can unwind after thrilling game drives and explore the natural beauty of the Maasai Mara. The staff, many of whom come from the local Maasai community, ensures a warm and welcoming environment, making the stay even more memorable.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Rekero Camp is from July to October, during the peak of the Great Wildebeest Migration, when the herds cross the Mara River. This period offers some of the most dramatic and exciting wildlife encounters as thousands of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles move through the plains, drawing predators in their wake. However, Rekero Camp is open throughout the year, and the Mara offers fantastic game viewing year round. For those seeking a quieter experience, the months from November to April provide excellent wildlife sightings without the crowds of the migration period.

How to Get There

Rekero Camp is best accessed by air from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to the nearest airstrip, Ol Kiombo, which is a 20 minute drive from the camp. Several scheduled flights operate daily, providing quick and scenic access to the Maasai Mara. Alternatively, for those who prefer to drive, the camp is reachable by road from Nairobi, which takes approximately 5 to 6 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions. The journey by road offers the opportunity to see the changing landscapes of Kenya as you approach the Mara.
