Little Governors’ Camp

Little Governors’ Camp

Little Governors’ Camp is situated in the Masai Mara National Reserve, one of the most renowned wildlife reserves in Kenya. The camp is located in the exclusive Musiara Conservancy, which is an ideal spot for observing the rich wildlife of the Mara region, especially the big cats. It’s a luxurious yet intimate escape into nature, offering a serene and private safari experience.

The camp comprises 17 luxurious tents that overlook a popular watering hole where wildlife often gather, providing guests with excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing directly from the comfort of their tents. Each tent is equipped with comfortable beds, en-suite bathrooms with hot showers and flush toilets, and a private veranda. The design of the camp ensures that guests feel closely connected to nature while still enjoying modern comforts.

The camp offers a variety of unique dining experiences. Meals can be enjoyed in the open air, with bush breakfasts by the Mara River, bush lunches under the shade of ancient trees, and dinners served around a campfire beneath the stars. The meals feature fresh, locally sourced ingredients prepared in traditional African styles.

Guests at Little Governors’ Camp can enjoy game drives that explore the diverse ecosystems of the Masai Mara, which is home to the iconic “Big Five” (lions, elephants, buffalo, leopards, and rhinos). The camp is also renowned for its proximity to the great wildebeest migration, with the herds passing through the Mara every year. Other activities include walking safaris guided by Maasai warriors, hot air balloon rides over the Mara, and visits to local Maasai villages for cultural experiences.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Little Governors’ Camp depends on what kind of experience you are looking for. The dry season from June to October is ideal for wildlife viewing, as the animals tend to congregate around water sources. During this time, the reserve is usually less green, making it easier to spot wildlife. The short rains between November and December bring a burst of life to the area, making it a great time to visit if you prefer a quieter experience with lush landscapes. The long rains, from March to May, often cause the roads to become muddy and difficult to navigate, but it’s also a time of vibrant growth and fewer tourists.

How to Get There

By Air

The most convenient way to reach Little Governors’ Camp is by air. There are scheduled flights from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to Musiara Airstrip, which is located just 15 minutes away from the camp by vehicle. This makes flying a quick and easy option, offering a scenic view of the Mara landscape along the way.

By Road

Alternatively, visitors can travel by road from Nairobi, which takes about 5 to 6 hours. The drive passes through the Great Rift Valley and into the Masai Mara via the Musiara Gate. It is recommended to use a 4×4 vehicle to navigate the sometimes rugged terrain, especially during the rainy season.
