How to Get to Cherero Camp
By Air
Flights from Wilson Airport (Nairobi) to Olkiombo Airstrip or Mara North Airstrip are the quickest and most convenient options. The flight takes approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour, followed by a 30-minute game drive to the camp. Airlines like Safarilink, AirKenya, and Governors’ Aviation offer daily flights.
By Road
It takes 5 to 6 hours to drive from Nairobi to Cherero Camp via the Narok route, covering about 240 km. The journey involves both paved roads and some rough terrain inside the Mara, especially during the rainy season. A 4×4 vehicle is recommended for comfort and reliability.
Best Time to Visit Cherero Camp
July to October (Great Migration Peak Season) – This is the most popular time to visit, as it coincides with the Great Migration. Witness the thrilling spectacle of wildebeest and zebras crossing the Mara River, attracting predators and providing extraordinary game viewing.
December to February (Best for Predator Sightings & Pleasant Weather) – The dry season offers excellent wildlife sightings, including the Big Cats, and the weather is warm and dry, making it ideal for game drives.
March to May (Green Season & Fewer Crowds) – This is the rainy season, but it’s an excellent time for birdwatching, and the landscapes are lush and green. There are fewer tourists, and you’ll get a more serene experience. However, the roads can be muddy.
June & November (Shoulder Seasons) – A great time for those who want a balance between price, crowds, and safari experiences. The weather is mild, and the wildlife is still abundant, but the camp is less crowded compared to peak season.
