Recent sightings of wildebeest herds near the Sand River area in the Masai Mara signal that the long anticipated northward movement is underway. These early scouts are often the first sign that the Great Migration is shifting from the Western Corridor of the Serengeti into the Northern Serengeti and eventually across the border into Kenya’s Masai Mara. It’s a natural pattern, the herds follow the rains, and with greener pastures drawing them north, it’s only a matter of days or weeks before large columns begin building up in areas like Kogatende, Lamai Wedge, and Mara Triangle. This is prime time for safari-goers in both regions to prepare for the dramatic Mara River crossings, where survival meets spectacle.
