Masai Mara Serena Lodge

Perched high on a hill within the famed Mara Triangle of the Masai Mara National Reserve, Masai Mara Serena Lodge offers an exceptional vantage point over the sweeping plains and the winding Mara River below. The lodge is uniquely designed to echo the traditional Maasai manyatta style, rounded, domed structures set in harmonious clusters, yet it provides all the luxuries of a modern safari escape. Its secluded setting ensures both tranquility and direct immersion into the vibrant ecosystem of the Masai Mara.

The lodge seamlessly combines cultural heritage with contemporary comfort. Inside, warm earth tones, hand crafted African furnishings, and locally inspired décor create a cozy and authentic atmosphere. Whether relaxing by the pool, dining under the stars, or enjoying a drink on the terrace, guests are always surrounded by breathtaking views and the sounds of the wild. Wildlife is never far, elephants, lions, and even wildebeest herds are often visible right from the lodge’s observation points.

Mara Serena is particularly favored by families, honeymooners, and travelers looking for a full service lodge experience with close proximity to the action. Its location makes it a prime spot for observing the Great Migration as herds cross the Mara River, while its elevated position ensures uninterrupted views and a sense of privacy away from more crowded tourist routes.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Mara Serena Lodge is during the dry season, from July to October. This period coincides with the Great Wildebeest Migration, when thousands of animals cross from the Serengeti into the Masai Mara, offering extraordinary wildlife spectacles. Game viewing is at its peak during this season, with animals gathering near remaining water sources, making them easier to spot.

However, for those looking to avoid the peak season crowds while still enjoying excellent game viewing, the shoulder seasons (December to March) also provide great safari experiences, with lush landscapes and abundant resident wildlife. The short rains in November and long rains from April to early June bring fewer tourists and dramatic scenery, ideal for photographers.

How to Get There

By Air

The most convenient way to reach Mara Serena Lodge is by a scheduled or chartered flight from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to Mara Serena Airstrip, which is located just 2 km from the lodge. The flight takes approximately 45 minutes. Upon arrival, a short game drive transfer brings you directly to the lodge.

By Road

For those preferring an overland adventure, the lodge is accessible via a roughly 5 to 6 hour drive from Nairobi. The journey includes scenic views of the Great Rift Valley and local towns, although roads near the reserve can be rough, especially during the rainy season. A 4×4 vehicle is highly recommended.
