Mahali Mzuri, meaning “beautiful place” in Swahili, is Sir Richard Branson’s luxury safari camp nestled in the private Olare Motorogi Conservancy, bordering Kenya’s iconic Maasai Mara National Reserve. This ultra-exclusive camp offers front-row seats to some of the most breathtaking wildlife spectacles on the planet, all while delivering five-star comfort in the heart of the African wilderness.
The camp comprises 12 futuristic yet elegantly designed tented suites, each elevated on a ridge to provide sweeping views of the valley below. These luxury tents combine canvas, wood, and glass to offer a stylish yet authentic safari experience. Each suite features an en-suite bathroom with a freestanding bathtub, plush king-sized beds, a private deck, and floor to ceiling windows that invite the outside in. Mahali Mzuri focuses heavily on sustainability and community empowerment, sourcing much of its produce locally and employing members of nearby Maasai communities.
What truly distinguishes Mahali Mzuri is its intimate setting and access to uncrowded game viewing. Being in a private conservancy means guests can enjoy activities not permitted in the National Reserve, such as night game drives, off-road driving, and guided bush walks. With world class hospitality, gourmet dining, and unbeatable wildlife encounters, Mahali Mzuri sets the bar for luxury safaris in East Africa.
Best Time to Visit
Mahali Mzuri is a year round safari destination, thanks to its location in the Olare Motorogi Conservancy where wildlife viewing is consistently excellent. However, the absolute best time to visit is during the Great Migration, typically from July through October, when thousands of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles pass through the conservancy en route to the Maasai Mara.
The dry season (June to October) is ideal for game viewing as animals tend to congregate around water sources, making sightings more predictable and dramatic. Meanwhile, the green season (November to May) offers lush landscapes, fewer tourists, and excellent birding, with plenty of resident wildlife still present in the conservancy.
How to Get There
By Air
The easiest and most scenic route is by scheduled or chartered flight from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to Olare Orok Airstrip, which is just a 25 minute drive from the camp. Flights from Nairobi typically take about 45 minutes.
By Road
For the more adventurous, Mahali Mzuri can be reached by road from Nairobi, but the journey takes approximately 5 to 6 hours and includes stretches of rough terrain. While it’s possible, air travel is highly recommended for comfort and time saving.
