Keekorok Lodge, established in 1962, is the oldest safari lodge in the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Nestled in the heart of the reserve, it offers an authentic and immersive safari experience with stunning views of the surrounding plains. The lodge is strategically positioned along the route of the Great Migration, making it a prime location for witnessing thousands of wildebeest and zebras as they traverse the Mara ecosystem.
One of Keekorok Lodge’s standout features is its elevated boardwalk, which leads to a hippo viewing deck overlooking a natural waterhole. This unique feature allows guests to safely observe hippos and other wildlife up close without leaving the lodge. The lodge also offers classic game drives, guided nature walks, Maasai cultural experiences, and sundowners in breathtaking locations.
With its blend of history, comfort, and accessibility, Keekorok Lodge remains a favorite for both first time and seasoned safari travelers looking for a well-established base in the Maasai Mara.
Best Time to Visit Keekorok Lodge
Peak Season (July to October)
The dry season is the best time for wildlife viewing, as animals gather around water sources and the sparse vegetation makes spotting them easier. This is also when the Great Migration takes place, offering dramatic river crossings and intense predator action.
Green Season (November to May)
This period is quieter, with fewer tourists and lower accommodation rates. The landscape is lush, making it a great time for photography. The calving season (January to March) brings an abundance of newborn animals, attracting predators and providing thrilling sightings. Birdwatching is also excellent during this time.
