Mara Expedition Camp is a luxurious yet authentic safari retreat nestled in a secluded grove of riverine forest within the greater Maasai Mara ecosystem. This intimate camp provides guests with a classic, explorer style safari experience, capturing the nostalgic charm of early 20th century expeditions. Tucked under the canopy of acacia trees and overlooking the Ntiakitiak River, the camp’s setting allows for both privacy and prime access to exceptional wildlife areas. Its unique location offers seamless access to the Maasai Mara National Reserve as well as the Mara North Conservancy, making it ideal for game viewing across different landscapes and territories.
The camp features just a handful of elegant canvas tents, designed with campaign style furniture, brass fittings, and deep leather accents that reflect the golden era of safaris. Each tent is spacious, en-suite, and thoughtfully positioned to maximize privacy and views. While it retains a rustic charm, Mara Expedition doesn’t compromise on comfort, guests can expect hot bucket showers, flush toilets, and beautifully curated interiors that make the experience feel special and exclusive. The central mess area is open and inviting, with cozy spots for reading, dining, and sharing stories under the stars. Evenings are best spent by the firepit, surrounded by nature and the sounds of the African night.
What sets Mara Expedition Camp apart is its personalized, low impact approach. It’s designed to disappear into its surroundings, operating almost entirely on solar power and adhering to eco-friendly practices. The camp offers a truly immersive bush experience, wildlife is abundant in the surrounding area, and it’s not uncommon to wake up to the sounds of lions or elephants nearby. This is a camp for those who want to explore off the beaten path, enjoy authentic, high quality guiding, and be at the very heart of the action during the Great Migration and beyond.
Best Time to Visit
July to October is the best time to visit if you’re looking to witness the Great Migration. Mara Expedition Camp is ideally located for accessing river crossings and predator interactions during this dramatic season.
December to March is also excellent for wildlife viewing, with clear skies, fewer tourists, and abundant big cat sightings. This is a wonderful time for photographers seeking crisp lighting and golden grasslands.
April to June is the green season, when the landscape is lush, the birdlife thrives, and fewer guests make for a very private safari. Though rains may fall, the experience is rich and rewarding in its own right.
